Two main segments of caste system that has prevailed in India are, those who are privileged and those who have several restrictions imposed on them. As a result they were forced to live outside the village, not allowed to enter holy places, nor schools and suffered from isolation.
in all walks of life. The untouchables were placed low in social hierarchy and suffered from disabilities and discrimination from everyone around. Both money, education, and political power is influenced by caste system in traditional India. Higher castes have more dominance in society. Brahmins held power because of the importance given to the ritual status and knowledge in the past. Later the economically dominant castes wrested power from Brahmins. There is slowly a shift in the importance from the ritual status and knowledge to education and other factors.
